The City of Portland will follow the lead of the federal and state governments and close tomorrow, Wednesday, December 5, for the national day of mourning for President Bush.

“What I want to convey to our employees and the public is President Bush's undying dedication to public service,” said City Manager Jon Jennings. “We all can disagree on certain policy areas, but the President was a hero in WWII, a committed public official dedicated to the common good, and a wonderfully generous man. It is in that spirit that I made the decision to close.”

All essential City services will continue to operate, but City buildings will be closed to the public. The District 1 Annual District Meeting at 7:00 PM at the East End Community School will still go on as planned.
