Members of Public Encouraged to Apply for Charter Commission Council Appointee

Any members of the public who wish to be considered by the Ad Hoc Committee as one of the Council’s appointees to the Charter Commission should send a cover letter and resume to the City Clerk’s Office no later than 12:00 PM on Monday, August 3, 2020. Cover letters and resumes can be emailed to Carolyn Dorr, Deputy City Clerk, at or mailed to City Clerk’s Office, Room 203, 389 Congress Street, Portland, Maine, 04101.


Council’s Ad Hoc Committee Discusses Charter Commission Appointees

The City Council’s newly created Charter Commission Ad Hoc Committee held its first meeting Tuesday, July 28. Committee members include Mayor Snyder, Councilor Nick Mavodones, Councilor Pious Ali, and Councilor Tae Chong. 


Ten Mixed-Income Housing Projects Totaling Almost 900 Units

In light of recent calls for the creation of more affordable housing in Portland, the City of Portland is sharing an overview of the affordable workforce housing projects that are currently in the pipeline and have support from the City Council. There are ten projects totaling more than 890 units of housing that have either been recently approved by the full Council, have been reviewed and approved by Council Committees, or will be before the Council for final approval in August.


TRAFFIC ALERT: Cumberland Avenue

As part of the MaineDOT project,  Cumberland Avenue  is scheduled to be paved between Elm Street and State Street on Monday, August 3. This will cause traffic delays and noise. If there is rain this date will be pushed back to either August 4 or August 5.


Council's Finance Committee Continues FY21 Budget Review on August 5

The City Council’s Finance Committee will continue its FY21 budget review process with a series of meetings starting on Wednesday, August 5, 2020 at 5:30 PM. The meetings will take place remotely via Zoom and can be live-streamed at The agenda materials can be found by visiting The Finance Committee will also meet remotely on Thursday, August 6 at 5:30 PM and Wednesday, August 12 at 5:30 PM. A scheduled public hearing will be held remotely during the Wednesday, September 2 Finance Committee meeting at 5:30 PM. 


City Continues to Serve Homeless People While Responding to Issues in Deering Oaks Park

Irving, Sawyer, Bryant, Mayland Streets - Trash Must Be Out By 6:30 AM

Due to the road construction on Mayland St, our trash/recycling trucks can not get down there once the contractor is on site. The contractor will allow our trash trucks to go in first thing on Monday mornings. Please place your trash out by 6:30 AM. This is targeted to residents who live on Irving, Sawyer, Bryant, Mayland Streets. Three weeks from now, Mayland will be done and Mackworth will be worked on.  


City Hosts August 12 Blood Drive

City Makes $500,000 Available for Rent Assistance for Portlanders Affected by COVID-19

In response to the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the City of Portland will make available up to three months of rent, and up to $250 in utility assistance to alleviate the housing burden for low income households that have lost their employment income as the result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The program is designed to alleviate financial pressure on renter households and provide economic security to rental property owners.
